Star Wars Porg Cupcakes
Follow along with Natty as she creates a whimsical porg’s nest cupcake with green coconut flakes, potato sticks (yes, potato sticks!)…and a little bit of help from The Force!
Recipe:
Ingredients:
Batter:
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4th tsp salt
- 2 eggs (at room temperature)
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 12 tsp butter
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup milk
Frosting
- 1 cup butter
- 1/4th tsp salt
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tsp heavy cream or half and half
- 1 tsp vanilla
Other Shenanigans
- Cupcake liners
- Cupcake/muffin pan
- Potato strings or shoelaces
- Sweetened coconut flakes
- Green food coloring
- About 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted in 30 second intervals in the microwave until melted
Preparation:
- Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar) for the batter first and set aside!
- Next, mix the wet ingredients (butter, vanilla, eggs, and milk) all together!
- After that, go ahead and combine the wet and dry ingredients, adding the flour a little bit at a time.
- Mix all of the ingredients starting slowly until light and fluffy. Take caution and don’t over mix!
- Add the cupcake liners to your pan, and fill with the batter until about 2/3rds of the way full.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean
- Let the cupcakes cool for a minimum of 3 hours before you start decorating!
- Dye the frosting and the coconut flakes green. (I used about 6-8 drops of green)
- Frost the cupcake with a thick layer and roll in the coconut flakes to create “grass”
- Make a nest by making small piles of shoestring potato sticks and drizzling with chocolate and chill to make sure they hold their shape!
- Add another small layer of frosting to secure the nest to the cupcake
- Add the nest to the top of the cupcake and grab a porg picture!
- Cut it out as close to the edge as you can be, and fasten with tape to a toothpick
- Add your porg wherever their nest may be, and may the force be with you!
